in search of the red house …

My fourth book makes its way to my agent this week and will hopefully go out on submission shortly after that. Set in Cambridgeshire, the Netherlands and Sicily in 2023 and 2024, the novel explores how people live on in our lives, years after we lose them. The novel also explores what we hope to leave behind and what remains after we have gone. It is a novel of living even as a person is dying. It is a novel of friendship and hope. The novel is also a story of caring, drawing on my experience of working for the NHS over the last 18 months.

When I write, it’s intensely visual; I see all of the book all at once — at least, all that I know about it at the time.

I’ve posted some images and music that helped shape the book below. But to be an accurate representation of how I see the book, I’d need to overlay the images one over the other and have everything moving forwards and backwards at the same time too 😅. If that sounds chaotic, it’s not, it all somehow makes perfect sense . I love how the writing reveals itself this way. Some parts are less clear and then begin to surface.

For more information about the book, please contact Veronique Baxter, DHA.
